Following the launch of the International Water Centre’s Master of Integrated Water Management earlier this year, the IWC is now offering scholarships for the innovative course, to be hosted by The University of Queensland, Brisbane.

The Water Leader Scholarships Program will offer full and partial tuition scholarships for Australian citizens, permanent residents and international applicants for the Semester One 2008 intake of the three-semester MIWM Program, valued up to $36,000 (AUD).

The IWC Master of Integrated Water Management focuses on improving the capacity of future leaders in water resource management, with an emphasis on professionals working in developing countries.

IWC Chair Professor Paul Greenfield says some of the most pressing issues facing developing countries are the need to balance water management with other human development imperatives.

“Access to water is inextricably linked to improving health and reducing poverty, and projects and problem-based learning approaches in the Masters course will enable students to explore these issues in detail.”

The Masters Program will also aim to educate water professionals through integrated approaches that will drive future responses to the global water crisis, and equip students with the strategic, managerial and technical skills they need to advance their careers in the water sector.

The course comprises a foundation semester, integration semester and an individual project with students designing and undertaking self-directed project work with academic supervision. Water governance and technological applications and will integrate learning from a variety of disciplines – mimicking real-life problem solving in the water sector, through the use of case studies and projects with extensive site visits planned.

The IWC Masters Program will be badged by the Centre’s member universities – The University of Queensland, Griffith University, Monash University and the University of Western Australia – four of Australia’s leading universities.

Established in November 2005, the IWC takes Australia’s expertise in whole-of-water cycle management to the world through education and training, research and consultancy.
