In their final semester, students have the opportunity to design and undertake self-directed project work aimed at consolidating and applying the concepts, principles and methodologies they have learned throughout the course. Students select an area of specialisation that is of personal and professional interest to them and is of value for their professional development. Students will have two supervisors and may undertake their project in Australia or overseas. Where possible, students will be linked with IWC and partner projects, including the International Riverfoundation twinning projects and the Healthy Waterways Partnership.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the Specialisation Project, students will:

  • Have practical experience in applying the tools and concepts of integrated water resource management to a particular water resource issue;
  • Be skilled in designing and undertaking a major project including independent research, project design, critical problem solving, and communication of complex issues;
  • Be confident to take on leadership positions within the water sector;
  • Have strong links to experts in the water industry and experience in working with industry and/or academic staff; and
  • Be capable of presenting a significant piece of academic or professional work reflecting substantial engagement with an integrated water resource management issue.
