|Political, institutional and socioeconomic factors in decentralised water management in Mozambique
Since completing my Master of Integrated Water Management and returning to Mozambique, I have undertaken a role as short-term Consultant for the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) for elaboration of the national report on application of integrated approaches to the development, management and use of water resources for the UN Conference (UNCSD Rio 2012).
Additionally, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be taught by one of the best Senior Lecturers of Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) in the IWC program, which aroused in me a great interest in WSS, and trying to analyse how the institutional environment of water supply and sanitation can be improved to foster and sustain water and sanitation initiatives.
My IWC Masters degree gave me a broad view of water management and all its correlated sectors, which enabled me to take on these consultancy jobs which I otherwise would not have been able to do.
Further, the Masters program in Australia strengthened my knowledge and approach to Integrated Water Resources Management to the extent that I am now frequently invited to give academic talks in national universities on national experiences of water sector reform – Decentralisation of Water Resources Management.
