Professional Development & Training

IWC’s aim is to provide national and international leadership in integrated water resource management skills development to current and future water professionals. We aim to build the capacity of water resource management organisations, and to support IWC member activities in related environmental services. Support to Water Education in Developing Countries.

IWC offers tailored training courses and study tours across all aspects of whole-of-water cycle management. IWC views training as an integral part of capacity building to address individual capacity. Training of individuals must be supported by institutional and broader community capacity. To this end, IWC can provide expertise in institutional strengthening and skills transfer and exchange.

Professional Development

In 2007 AusAID-funded Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Fellowships Program commenced a program in Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) for ten Fellows from The Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC). The Program provides training in the form of either a Graduate Certificate in Integrated Water Management or a Professional Development Program. During the seven month period, the ten Fellows will undertake a program which builds their knowledge and skills through a combination of academic studies and experiential learning in the concepts and principles of integrated water management. It is an opportunity for the Fellows to broaden their knowledge of IWRM whilst pursuing their particular areas of interest and expertise. The program consists of intensive English language training, non-award academic study, a study tour and industry placement.

Training and Short Courses

IWC has developed a range of training and short courses across the water cycle.

Below are examples of courses IWC has recently conducted:

Healthy Waterways Communicating Science Effectively Workshop

Philippines National Water Resources Board Training

Support to Water Education in Developing Countries

IWC and The University of Western Australia were secured funding from the AusAID Public Sector Linkages Program for the Institutional Support for Education and Training in Water and Sanitation project in Timor Leste.

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of Timorese higher education institutions, staff and students in engineering, particularly in fields relating to the water and sanitation sector. To achieve this objective, activities will involve building a long-term relationship and institutional exchange between Timorese universities and The University of Western Australia and other IWC member universities.
