Darling Downs field trip
A group of IWC students visited farms in the Darling Downs area, west of Brisbane, to look at how farmers maximise water use efficiency in irrigation.
Darling Downs is a major food production area of Queensland with rich soil but relatively low rainfall, so to remain viable as a farming community they have needed to become very efficient in water use.
The students visited the Queensland Murray Darling Commission where they participated in a presentation and discussion on environmental flows for river and landuse for ensuring higher water quality without overextraction for irrigation.
