2009 Australian Leadership Award Fellowships
- Filipino participant
The first cohort from PERPAMSI, Indonesia’s Water Supply Association, came for 18 weeks, looking at water supply management in an IWRM context.
They undertook subject-specific English language training, lectures and seminars, study trips in South East Queensland, the Darling Downs and far North Queensland, industry placements, and attended the International Riversymposium.
The second cohort from the Philippines National Water Resources Board and affiliated organisations participated in a 14-week program of classroom learning, study tours and work placements in the natural resource management aspects of IWRM.
“The Maleny trip was my most unforgettable experience,” one Filipino participant said. “The place was good, and the lecturer warm, knowledgeable, very energetic and entertaining. It was the experience of a lifetime.”
The third cohort from the Ministry of Water Resources in China has come for a six-week integrated river basin management program. They are travelling around the Murray Darling basin, looking at water allocation, environmental flows and the effects of climate change.
Feedback from the Fellows so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with high levels of satisfaction with the program and renewed motivation for further learning when they returned home.
