Are you ready for the Water Innovation Lab Australia?

Water Innovation Lab comes to Australia 19 - 26 May 2018

The Water Innovation Lab (WIL) brings together inquiring and committed individuals from the water sector, engineering, art and design, the sciences, business, social sciences, policy and planning to build our capacity to collaborate for a resilient future.

WIL offers a seven-day journey for young leaders from diverse backgrounds to collaborate with others to design new paradigms and work towards a resilient water future. WIL is grounded in inter-generational and cross-sectoral learning, inviting collaboration between young leaders, experienced mentors and facilitators. It will develop future water leaders to think holistically, design innovatively, and communicate across sectors and generations in order to respond to our greatest water challenges.

About Water Innovation Lab

WIL focuses on skill-building and knowledge-transfer along with supporting ideas that will transform over the course of the Lab into prototypes and actions. Everything about the Lab is designed to bring to the surface new thinking and solutions that can be implemented once participants return to their daily lives.

Participants leave the Lab with valuable global connections, incredible experiences from a deep learning environment and opportunities for practice and ongoing collaboration.

The Lab is built around 4 key components:

  1. Field Tours and Community Visits - An opportunity to experience and observe water projects and challenges first hand;
  2. Innovation Projects - Current water problems, innovation gaps, and community input will be the catalyst to form new project/company ideas that will be worked on throughout the program with peers and mentors;
  3. Knowledge and Technology Transfer - In-depth discussions sharing knowledge across research areas and/or water interest areas and exploring areas for research collaboration between Australia and Canada (and other participating countries) as well as supporting new project ideas and entrepreneurial ventures;
  4. Skills Development - WIL Australia focuses on leadership development, capacity building, and facilitation training to support participants in becoming innovators in the field.

Outcomes

WIL Australia is not a directive, goal-oriented intervention, but rather a process by which different players can come together to build new relationships for collaboration, accelerate knowledge sharing, build transferable skills and innovate and co-develop potential solutions to water challenges. Participation in the Lab enables breakthrough, system-shifting innovations through the transformation of individual and collective patterns of seeing, thinking and acting.

Participants

WIL Australia is designed for 20 to 35-year-olds from diverse backgrounds and nationalities who are enthusiastic about innovating within the Australian water context. Participants do not need to be experts in water issues, but should be able to demonstrate how water is involved in their work. Waterlution believes the most compelling dialogue comes from having a mixture of knowledge and perspectives together in a facilitated experience.
