Held in Brisbane in early March Ozwater’10 was an opportunity to profile the projects, technologies and practices that will feature in an increasingly challenging and demanding era of water management. During the three day conference and exhibition almost 200 platform papers were presented and 80 electronic posters were on display on a wide range of issues including water policy reform, water reuse technology and water markets and pricing.
The conference was officially opened by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade, Stephen Robertson, who provided an overview of water management in Queensland. The keynote speech, available for the first time via the internet, was delivered by Dr William Muhairwe, the Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Uganda. He shared his experience of rebuilding a ‘struggling’ corporation into an efficient operation that is delivering improved water services for the people of Uganda. Keynote presentations were also delivered by speakers from the UK, New Zealand and Australia.
The AWA National Water Awards were also announced at Ozwater. The awards celebrate and promote the outstanding work achieved by individuals and organisations in the water sector.
