Riversymposium call for papers to open shortly

Rivers are the lifeblood of human settlements providing myriad ecosystem services. As the global population increases, the pressure placed on the rivers and the world’s natural resources is also set to rise and hence their sustainable management is critical.

The 15th International Riversymposium, 7-11 October 2012 in Melbourne Victoria, will explore the intricately linked pressures on rivers as our urban population grows and expands.

Program focus areas will include environmental and human health impacts, food, water security and energy needs alongside topics including governance, economic drivers and poverty reduction.

Managing rivers for a global population increase, climate and the advent of increased natural disasters (e.g. flooding) are also critical issues which will be addressed.

Call for papers will open shortly and close in February 2012. Further announcements on the conference and themes will be available at:
