In 2012 IWC hosted 19 professionals from the Ministry of Water Resources, China, who deepened their skills in integrated water resource management and leadership during a professional development program.

19 managers from the Ministry of Water Resources, China received an insight into theory and practice of Australian approaches to leadership in the context of integrated water management.
Participants worked individually and in groups in workshops, two-way information exchanges, case study examples and site visits. The program has also strengthened existing relationships between the MWR and the IWC and it’s partner organisations.
During site visits in Brisbane, Toowomba, Canberra, and Melbourne participants were able to gain an insight in innovative programs that they were able to tailor and implement in integrated water management outcomes across China's river basins.
