“The Tweed River and its catchment streams will, in 2025, be a healthy ecosystem and sustain the livelihoods and lifestyles of the community which cooperates to protect it.”
This is the Tweed Shire Council's vision for its waterways. To achieve this vision the Council wishes to take the next step in implementing its Management Plans for these waterways, which is to establish a program to monitor and report on their environmental health.
IWC is working with Tweed Shire Council to develop and implement an EHMP in three phases.
- Phase 1 was an initial scoping study, completed in 2007.
- Phase 2 is intended to be the first of two stages of implementation, investigations and reporting and focuses on the Cobaki and Terranora Broadwaters only.
- Phase 3 will see the subsequent extension of the EHMP to the Tweed River, its tributaries, headwaters and the small streams in the region including the three coastal streams to the south.
