The International WaterCentre in partnership with the National Urban Water Governance Program, Monash University, sponsored by the DOW Chemical Company, delivered a series of five capacity building and leadership workshops, Creating Water Sensitive Cities in Australia, in five cities - Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide in February 2009.
Project Category: Consultancy
Key Areas of Work: Sustainability,Integrated Water Resource Management,Water sensitive urban design
Project Date: Apr 08, 2009
The objectives of the workshop series have been to:
- effectively disseminate leading edge findings from a range of research programs being conducted by Monash University's National Urban Water Governance Program, Facility for Advancing Water Biofiltration and Sustainability Institute
- enhance the capacity of water practitioners and their organisations to transition towards a more sustainable 'water sensitive city' through facilitated 'inquiry' sessions and conversations
- develop a shared understanding of what a 'water sensitive city' might look like and the associated barriers and opportunities for achieving this outcome.
In addition to these primary workshop objectives, the Creating Water Sensitive Cities initiative has also been designed to compare and contrast information collected and discussed at all five workshops. Following analysis, the findings will be shared with the National Water Commission and key water policy decision makers with a view to influencing the future direction of sustainable water policy at the national and state government level and with professional bodies around Australia.
