Pilot field work and work placement
Work placement and pilot field work aim to encourage date exchange and sharing in between Australian and Chinese experts and equip the technicians with a high level exposure of practical working environment. Filed works in two pilot sites – Yellow River and Pearl River will be undertaken from March to May. A 6-week Work placement for staff from these two pilot sites starts from May to June. Research and technical experts from Liao River pilot site will commence their work placement in Australia from early March to mid-April and return to Liao River pilot undertaking field work.
Pearl River pilot site training workshop
Australian experts completed Pearl River pilot visit on 31 January. The pilot visit involved 4 days on the Gui River, 2 days training workshop which was attended by around 100 officials from water agencies across the basin and a separate indicator and asset identification workshop where clear priorities around the basin and implementation programs were put forwards by the Pearl River Water Resource Committee.

Study tour
A Technical Study Tour to Australia was organized from 22 Nov to 12 Dec with the purpose of developing an enhanced understanding of key policy and institutional frameworks for planning and managing complex and large river basins; and building the capacity of Chinese water managers to incorporate public participation, social impacts identification and gender equity into river basin policy formulation and implementation.

Inception meeting
On 3rd September 2009, More than 40 attendees from MWR, MEP, WWF, ADB, Research Institutes and Universities were present at the inception workshop. Ms Christine Schweizer, from the Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage & the Arts who is a member of the Project Steering Committee. The Inception Report was approved on 10th Dec 2009 by the ACEDP program office.
