IWC Masters Scholarships - Terms & Conditions

Definitions

  • ‘IWC’ refers to the ‘International WaterCentre Pty Ltd’

  • ‘the Scholarship’ refers to the International WaterCentre’s Masters Scholarships

  • ‘the Recipient’ refers to a student who receives an IWC Masters Scholarship

  • ‘MIWM Program’ refers to IWC’s Master of Integrated Water Management program

  • ‘Domestic students’ are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents

  • ‘International students’ are students who do not hold an Australian/New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent resident visa


Value of scholarship

For domestic students: the Scholarship includes either full-tuition or part-tuition fees for the MIWM Program.

For international students: the Scholarship includes either full-tuition or part-tuition fees for the MIWM Program and Overseas Student Health Cover for the period of enrolment in the Program.

 

The Scholarship is not redeemable for cash. Recipients of part-tuition scholarships are responsible for paying the remainder of the tuition fees each semester and all other associated study or living expenses.


The Scholarship does not cover: travel, accommodation, field work, living costs, medical cover, insurance and any other study-related expenses such as materials, books and equipment. These costs will be the responsibility of successful recipients.

 

Restrictions

The Scholarship cannot be used to for any purpose other than the recipient’s tuition fees payment and overseas health care.

Scholarships are available in the year of offer only. To be considered for the next round of IWC Masters Scholarships, you must submit an application form by 1 August the year prior to commencing study. In addition, you need to receive an unconditional offer of admission into the MIWM Program from The University of Queensland or The University of Western Australia.

 

Program of study

IWC Masters Scholarships are to support students enrolled in the Master of Integrated Water Management program only. 

A student holding a full-tuition Scholarship may not concurrently hold another scholarship without the approval of IWC.

 

Duration of funding

The Scholarship funds either full or part-tuition fees for a maximum of 24 units, to be completed in a maximum of 4 years for full-time students; or a maximum of 6 years for part-time students, including field placement/s.

International students on an Australian Student Visa are required to complete the program within the duration specified in the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). Requests for extensions to the period of study or temporary suspension of the Scholarship must be made in writing to the relevant partner university for review on a case-by-case basis.

 

Activities during scholarship period

Scholarship recipients will be expected to participate in professional development activities beyond the MIWM regular coursework requirements. These additional activities are required but will not result in additional academic credit and may include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the International WaterCentre’s marketing and communications department to provide photos, interviews and/or written testimonials for promotional purposes
  • Providing up to two hours per week for research purposes, as set forth by the International WaterCentre Program Managers
  • Present research at selected conferences throughout the duration of the program, as designated by International WaterCentre
  • Failure to participate in the aforementioned activities -when required- may result in the forfeiture of the Scholarship

 

Fieldwork

Scholarship recipients may choose to conduct fieldwork in Australia or overseas as part of the Final Specialisation Project and/or the Capacity Building and Community Development module.  All costs related to field work are the responsibility of the Recipients. Recipients are solely responsible for obtaining relevant visas for overseas field work and for ensuring they are in compliance with all visa requirements.

 

Withdrawal or termination of award

The Scholarship will terminate if:  

  • the Recipient withdraws from the Program 
  • the Recipient does not conform to the terms and conditions of the Scholarship
  • the Recipient does not conform to the relevant partner university’s rules and policies.
  • the Recipient does not complete each semester with satisfactory progress. Scholarship recipients must maintain a Grade Point Average of 5.5 or above in order to avoid termination of the scholarship.

The Scholarship will terminate if the Recipient does not resume the Program at the conclusion of a period of approved leave of absence or does not make arrangements for the approval of an extension to the period of leave of absence.

The Scholarship is tenable at the relevant partner university subject to satisfactory progress according to the university partner policies.
